Duty Cycle: Why a Shredder Stops Halfway Through the Job
A shredder stopping mid-task is usually not a fault. It is the machine protecting its motor.
Run time and cool-down
Makers publish a continuous run time and a required rest period. Exceed the first and thermal protection trips, and the machine will not restart until it has cooled.
Plan around it
For a large clear-out, work in blocks with breaks rather than pushing until it stops. That is easier on the motor and finishes sooner in practice.
Continuous-duty machines
Some models are built for long runs. If you regularly shred in volume, that specification is worth more than a higher security rating you do not need.
Overfeeding
Pushing more sheets than the rated capacity is the other common cause of stopping. Feed within the rating and jams become rare.
